Meet Januari

Januari McKay is a caregiver, community educator, and legislative advocate who understands that access to education and resources opens doors. In college, she faced a choice between housing and education and chose to stay in school. This experience shaped her path. After graduation, a hiring freeze blocked her government career plans, so she took a role in a group home in Upper Marlboro, advocating for youth sexual and reproductive health. She later worked in child welfare, helping young people reach milestones and transition out of foster care.

Her commitment to that belief extended into the halls of government. As a legislative assistant in the Maryland State Delegation, Januari worked on legislation to protect children from the school-to-prison pipeline and helped develop a commission to study the creation of a statewide universal healthcare system. She has proactively influenced federal policy through youth mobilization and advocacy, and was awarded grant funding for youth community-based programming nationwide. She is an active member of the Prince George’s County Chapter of the NAACP and the Metropolitan Women’s Democratic Club, and has served in leadership roles for the Civic Engagement Ministry of First Baptist Church of Glenarden.

Today, Januari serves as Chief of Staff and legislative advocate and is a devoted caretaker for her grandmother. She has built a reputation as a trusted connector, linking individuals and families to the resources and support they need. As Register of Wills for Prince George’s County, she will bring the same dedication to families during life’s most important and challenging moments.
